Gestura · Updated 30 August 2026
Questions, bug reports, and feedback are welcome at mohababdelatief@icloud.com. Including your iPhone model, your iOS version, and the Gestura version shown in Settings › About makes problems much faster to track down.
Getting started
- Open Gestura and allow access to your music library when prompted — the app plays the music already on your iPhone.
- Play a track from Home, Library, or Search.
- Open the Gestura tab and allow camera access. Hold a hand pose in front of the front camera and playback responds.
Gesture control works best with the iPhone propped up, your whole hand inside the frame, and reasonable lighting.
Gestures
| Gesture | Action |
|---|---|
| ✋ Open Palm | Play / Pause |
| 👉 Point Right | Next Track |
| 👈 Point Left | Previous Track |
| 👍 Thumbs Up | Add to Favorites |
| 👎 Thumbs Down | Remove from Favorites |
The same list is always available in the app under Settings › Gesture Reference.
Troubleshooting
My gestures aren't being recognized
- Check that Gesture Control is turned on in Settings.
- Hold the pose still for a moment. Gestura waits until it is confident before acting, which is what stops ordinary hand movements from skipping your music.
- Move your hand fully into the frame, and try better lighting — a backlit hand in front of a bright window is hard to read.
- After a gesture fires there is a short cooldown before the same gesture can fire again.
- Try a faster preset under Settings › Recognizer Speed. Snappy reacts quickest; Relaxed is the most deliberate.
Gestures fire when I didn't mean them to
Switch Settings › Recognizer Speed to Relaxed. It requires a longer hold and a higher confidence before acting, and waits longer between gestures.
The camera view is blank, or says access is needed
Open the iOS Settings app, find Gestura, and turn Camera on. The camera runs only while the Gestura tab is open and gesture control is enabled — it stops as soon as you leave the tab or send the app to the background, so a blank view elsewhere in the app is expected.
My library is empty
Gestura needs media library access: open the iOS Settings app, find Gestura, and allow access to Apple Music and your media library. The app can only show music that is on the device, so streaming tracks need to be downloaded for offline listening before they appear.
Can Gestura control Spotify, YouTube Music, or other apps?
No. Gestura plays your device's own music library. Other streaming apps keep playback inside their own apps, where no third-party player can reach it.
I'd rather not use the camera at all
Turn Gesture Control off in Settings, or decline camera access. Gestura then works as an ordinary music player, and the camera never runs.
Turning off the chime or haptics
Detection Chime and Haptic Feedback each have their own switch in Settings, under Gestura.
Clearing favorites or recently played
Settings › Library has Clear Favorites and Clear Recently Played. Both are permanent and cannot be undone.
Privacy
Gestura collects nothing, has no accounts or analytics, and makes no network requests. Camera frames are analyzed on your iPhone and immediately discarded — nothing is recorded or uploaded. The full policy is at Gestura's privacy policy.
Requirements
- iPhone running iOS 26.1 or later
- Music in your device's library for playback
- Front camera access for gesture control (optional)
